"Losing" My Voice

AssalamuAlaikum,
I wanted to share an interesting experience of mine. For a whole day yesterday I had lost my voice. I am generally seen as a person who is very sociable, one who makes jokes and cheers up other people. When I had “lost” my voice, not completely but when I spoke my throat hurt, so I decided to just tell people through actions that I could not speak. Throughout the day many of my friends and colleagues came up to me and wanted to talk. When I could not speak them for long, I noticed they all left immediately. This made me reflect on the type of Athaar I am leaving behind. Am I only seen as a person who entertains people? Or one who is there to just small talk with?
I realised how much useless talk I really engage in and how much time I saved! I only spoke when necessary to save my throat from any agony.
“Losing” my voice was a test from Allah (swt), and a blessing at the same time. It taught me an important lesson from an angle which I could not even imagine.
This experience has taught me to be conscious of my conversations and the type of Athaar I want to leave behind!
